Onderzoek

Mijn onderzoek bevindt zich op het terrein van de Internationale Politieke Economie, en richt zich op dit moment met name op de relatie tussen het mondiale kapitalisme en geopolitiek. Een centraal project in deze context betreft hier de analyse van de sociale determinanten van de geopolitieke strategie van de VS sinds het einde van de Koude Oorlog (samen met Naná de Graaff) . Andere projecten betreffen de mogelijke opkomst van post-neoliberalisme in de mondiale politieke economie and de kennelijke wederopstanding van de staat(s)macht in het mondiale kapitalisme in de context van een machtsverschuiving naar het Oosten.  Daarnaast blijft de politieke economie van het Europese integratieproces, en in het bijzonder het sociaal-economisch beleid van de EU, een belangrijke component van mijn onderzoeksagenda. Deze onderzoeksprojecten vinden plaats binnen het door mij en Professor Overbeek geleide Amsterdam Research Centre for International Political Economy (www.arcipe.eu), die gezeteld in de Afdeling Politicologie van de Vrije Universiteit eveneens onderzoekers verbindt aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, de Copenhagen Business School en de Goethe Universität Frankfurt.  Als lid van de Nederlandse Onderzoeksschool voor Bestuurskunde (NOB), neem ik deel aan het programma ‘Governance in the European Union’.
