Reliable organizing encompasses attention to internal, external as well as relational aspects. Core elements concern both motivation, identity and coordination in and between organizations. Increasing collaboration requires attention to relational and network processes. Therefore the study of the origins and dynamics of networks is crucial for understanding todays networked organizations. Core network insights such as structural and positional advantages can be combined with insights from culture and communication studies to better understand the function of networked organizations. Secondly the manner in which network functioning can be enhanced by combination with insight from computer science is an interesting growth area. Lastly the functioning of complex networks in institutional fields is of interest for social problems such as health care, education and crisis management.
