Global migration has drastically changed Western societies in a short period of time. Countries like The Netherlands have evolved from ethnically fairly homogeneous countries into societies where people from multiple ethnic and religious contexts live together. We call these ‘multicultural societies’ for short.
The impact of multicultural societies is immense, and is felt in daily life and in political processes. The work place and neighbourhoods are frontiers of multicultural societies were new opportunities are found and unexpected conflicts arise.
The Minor Frontiers of Multicultural Societies will give you a deeper understanding of social processes underlying multicultural societies. You will explore important topics within multicultural societies from several disciplinary perspectives. You will also address the question how you, as a student or in your professional life, can handle cultural differences and normative conceptions concerning ethnicity and religion.
This course is taught in English.
