Study programme
Encompassing both the physical and the existential dimensions of human security
The Master SCA enables students to develop and strengthen their research capabilities, while anchoring in the theoretical paradigm of human security. The programme explores issues such as poverty and migration, sustainable development, religion and identity.
The programme begins with a comprehensive theoretical orientation on human security. Halfway through this orientation, you will specialize in one of two profiles: Constructing Identities and Notions of Belonging or Development and Social Transformations. The former leans towards cultural anthropology, the latter towards sociology of development.
In the second semester students conduct fieldwork research for their master thesis a country of their choice for approximately 3 months. Watch the movies made by students during their fieldwork.
“As a student, you can shape your Anthropology programme to suit your own interests. I was always interested in anthropology and business, and I had the chance to combine these two disciplines during my fieldwork in India. My experiences in the field were fantastic, and made me realize that there is a future for this combination.” Anemoon van Dijk, Master’s student in Social and Cultural Anthropology
