Career prospects
As a graduate of the Master’s programme in Political Science at VU University Amsterdam, you will be capable of working effectively in a multidisciplinary environment: you will be familiar with and have a solid foundation in the approaches used in the wider world of the social sciences. Graduates are well-equipped to undertake roles in organizations where coherent policy papers are produced, based on specialist reports from various disciplinary backgrounds.
You can easily find yourself working as a policy analyst or advisor at a research institute or think-tank. Whether at the local, regional or national level, your knowledge of political processes and structures will enable you to make a contribution to administration and government in various sectors. Knowledge and skills gained from the programme will also be advantageous for a career in journalism. Besides that, a substansive amount of graduate students are working in a commercial environment as advisor or consultant.
The thorough application of research skills offered by the programme also prepares you for successful participation in PhD research in political science at our department or postgraduate institutes around the world. Occasionally, there is room within this research programme for talented individuals to take up a position as a research assistant or a PhD candidate.
