Master’s degree certificates

1.  As soon as a student has completed and passed all master courses the master’s degree certificate can be applied for.

  • Apply for the Master’s degree certificate before the last Friday of the month at the Programme Secretariat (see schedule below for the exact dates).
  • Submit two copies of your master thesis as well as a copy of your passport (not your driver’s license).
  • From the Programme Secretariat you will receive an information package. Fill in the forms to apply for the ‘Master’s degree certificate’. These forms have to be filled in at the desk. Furthermore you need to submit a digital copy of your master thesis into the University Library Thesis Database. You do not need to do this at the Programme Secretariat, but in order to graduate submitting a digital copy in the UL database is mandatory. Instructions on how to do this you will find in the information package.

2. The student’s supervisors will submit the assessment of the Master’s thesis before the fifteenth of the month following the deadline of application at the Programme Secretariat. Before the thesis will be assessed the supervisor will check the master thesis on plagiarism.

3. The Examination Board will determine about fifteen days later whether the applicant qualifies for receiving the Master’s degree at the graduation ceremony.

4. The graduation ceremony will take place on the dates given in the schedule at the bottom of this page.

  • For students SR the graduation ceremony will be individual or in little groups of two, three or four students.
  • For students COM, PS and SCA there will be a graduation ceremony in which a group of students receive their Master’s degree certificate.

An alternative time schedule is applicable for the summer period of 2010 (June-July-August).

  • The official graduation ceremony of the Master’s degree will take place in September for COM and SCA, on Monday 18 October for PS and Thursday 7 October for SR.

If you submit your thesis in July or August (i.e. after June 25):

  • Then you have to apply for the Master’s degree certificate before or on Friday 11 June at the Programme Secretariat.
  • Submit before 20 August two copies of your Master’s thesis at the Programme Secretariat (as well as a copy of your passport).
  • The Master’s degree will be dated 31 August 2010 (if all requirements have been met) and the graduation ceremony will be in October or November 2010 (registration for the academic year of 2010-2011 is not necessary!).
