Organization Sciences (SfO): Prof. Sim Sitkin
Sim Sitkin's research focuses on leadership and control systems and their influence on how organizations and their members become more or less capable of change and innovation. He is widely known for his research on the effect of formal and informal organizational control systems and leadership on risk taking, accountability, trust, learning, M&A processes, and innovation.
Prof. Sitkin has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, International Sociology, Journal of Organizational Behaviour, Journal of Management, among many others, as well as in a variety of books, and he has been senior editor for Organization Science and associate editor at Journal of Organizational Behaviour.
He is currently working on two book projects, one focusing on leadership, and a second focusing on the development and use of organizational control systems. At the VU University Amsterdam, professor Sitkin works closely with colleagues in the department, in particular with researchers from the SfO programme. He visits the department twice a year, assisting with the development of research projects, stimulating publications in renowned journals and reviewing draft articles. He also teaches a course as part of the PhD programme on writing and reviewing academic articles and together with Katinka Bijlsma co-organized the EIASM Workshop ‘Trust within and between organizations’, Amsterdam, October 2007.
