19 September – 26 September 2008 Visit to Erbil, Baghdad

Prof. Dr. Mient Jan Faber, holder of the IKV/VU special chair on “Citizen involvement in war situations”, and PhD student Martijn Dekker intend to make a week-long visit to Erbil, Iraq. The main reasons for this visit are as follows:

- Discussing the VU program for visiting scholars from conflict regions, Academic Freedom, with Iraqi counterparts;
- Reviewing candidates for the Academic Freedom program;
- Comparing current research results with findings of local scholars;
- Setting up a network of involved scholars in order to support research and education at the VU University with local expertise;
- Preparing fieldwork for the PhD research project;
- Attending a workshop on Human Security from Below, which is the main subject of the IKV/VU special chair;
