Application Procedure
Students from partner universities
The Faculty of Social Science offers exchange programmes to students from partner universities who wish to study for one (5 months) or two semesters (10 months) at VU University Amsterdam. We participate in the following exchange programmes:
- The Erasmus Programme of the European Union
- Non-EU Bilateral agreements
If you are a student from one of our partner universities you can inquire about the application procedure at the international office of your own university. In other words, you should be nominated by your home university. If you are nominated by your home university, they have to send us a nomination e-mail. Once you have been nominated by e-mail, we will send you an application package, which includes information about the online application system, courses and accommodation.
International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)
The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) is an American non-profit organization in which 220 universities and colleges in the USA take part. VU University Amsterdam joined ISEP in 2000. Free movers
Students from universities that do not have an exchange agreement with VU University Amsterdam, who wish to follow courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences for one or two semesters, can apply as a free mover. We charge a standard Study Abroad tuition fee of 100 Euro per ECTS. The total for a full semester workload would be 3000 Euro. You will receive an invoice upon arrival.
If you wish to study at the Faculty of Social Sciences as a free mover you should contact us by e-mail with a motivation letter explaining why you want to study at our faculty and a grade list. If your motivation and grade list are sufficient, you will receive an application package, with information about courses and accommodation.The number of places for free movers is limited; if there are too many applications we will have to make a selection.
Application deadlines
The application deadlines for the academic year 2012/2013 are:
- 15 April for the first semester or whole academic year
- 15 October for the second semester
